The mission of the Council is to maximize market access and increase demand for Canadian wood products through excellence in codes, standards, regulations and education. Our vision is to be passionate, credible agents of innovation leading an advanced and sustainable wood construction culture.Wood WORKS! is a program of the CWC that supports a wood culture by connecting individuals, sharing best practices and celebrating innovative successes.  Wood WORKS! is dedicated to increasing demand for wood products as well as engineered and value-added wood components and systems in industrial, commercial, institutional, and mid-rise construction.And now we are looking for a new Vice President of Market Development someone who will be instrumental in our continued growth as we move into the future.Vice President of Market DevelopmentThis is a vital role, responsible for delivering our key market development programs. Reporting to the President and CEO, you’ll build on 21 years of success of the Wood WORKS! program, and lead the association’s market development program to expand into new markets across Canada.You’ll develop markets for the use of structural wood products in Canada, including implementing new ideas and tools to facilitate their use and specification by Canadian designers and builders. By consulting and collaborating with leaders from the wood products industry and the Association’s Board and membership, you’ll ensure that the programs and initiatives showcase the value of Canadian wood products.Succeeding will require stepping back from the day-to-day work and focusing on the overall vision and mission to expand market access and increase demand for Canadian wood products. Whether that means leading, planning, and providing direction for the team or, by developing and implementing the related annual business development strategies and tactics.Practically speaking, here are some of the things you’ll be working on:* Oversee, direct, and manage our market development program Wood WORKS! and deliver on annual objectives* Establish the Wood WORKS! program goals and create relevant metrics to evaluate program impacts, effectiveness, and increased market share and establish and manage annual budgets* Provide guidance and support to governance, communications, and technical activities* Secure government & private sector funding for the Association’s programs and related market development activities* Liaise and engage with industry partners and sponsors across Canada and initiate, facilitate, maintain, and build new and existing partner and sponsor relationships* Negotiate, manage, grow, and adapt the delivery of funding contracts for the federal and provincial government departments and agencies for the advancement of wood construction in Canada* Develop funding proposals, position papers, and briefings to communicate the benefits of existing programs to stakeholders, and secure funding for new market development programs and initiatives* Report quarterly and annual results to the Board, stakeholders, and funding partners* Oversee a team of professionals located across the countryBesides the operational aspects of this role, you’ll need to use your excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to advise, guide and communicate strategic direction and plans. You’ll lean on your ability to build relationships and make authentic connections with co-workers, contractors, business professionals, and industry partners. You’ll develop trust and encourage buy-in and commitment towards strategies and initiatives.Working with the CWCThis is a full-time, permanent position, with National responsibilities and up to 20% travel across Canada. Our office is located in Downtown Ottawa, with flexibility to work remotely when required. We maintain close ties with members, potential members, companies and design professionals and provide these groups with a forum for discussion on issues of importance.Qualifications* Senior-level leadership experience in business or market development* Experience with strategic planning, project management and delivery, and leading complex project teams and staff* Experience in communications and engagement with CEOs and leaders, Board Members, government representatives, and the general public* Proven experience developing and managing multiple and complex budgets* Experience developing proposals, negotiating contracts, and securing funding for programs and initiatives* Knowledge of Canada’s forestry, wood design, and construction sectors an asset* Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or advanced technology* French language proficiency/fluency is a significant assetHow to ApplyOur online application will give you the option to apply to this role as a complete person – not just a resume.
