Shift Manager

This is a Contract position in Scarborough, ON posted May 6, 2021.

Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Shift Manager is responsible for the overall Hospital operation of program/services, providing ongoing support to front line staff after regular business hours.

This includes the management of patient care activities, timely patient flow, appropriate resource allocation, and the management of Department specific and Hospital-wide clinical and non-clinical issues.

This is accomplished in a way that is conducive to the growth and development of staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Supports and mentors staff in critical thinking and decision making through a highly visible presence throughout the facility.

Facilitates effective communication and problem solving by front-line staff.

Manages conflict and facilitates its resolution in staff to staff, staff to MD, and staff to patient and/or family situations.

Utilizes theory and research as a basis for clinical and administrative decisions.

Identifies systems issues and assists in the development and implementation of policies and processes to address these issues.

Assumes responsibility for the management of issues handed off by Manager, Patient Flow and Unit and Department Managers.

Provides information requiring ongoing attention to the Manager, Patient Flow, Manager on-call and Administrator on-call, as appropriate.

Implement and support quality and risk initiatives and strategies to safeguard the interests of the organization given legislative requirements.

Assist staff in responding to patient/family complaints to facilitate timely resolution.

Identifies systems issues within the organization and assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, which address these issues.

QUALIFICATIONS Member of a regulated health discipline.

Baccalaureate degree or equivalent.

Three to five years’ experience in an acute care clinical leadership role.

Critical Care and/or Emergency experience is an asset.

Demonstrates leadership abilities, superior interpersonal skills, and excellent written and exceptional verbal communication skills.

Ability to coordinate and manage multiple initiatives.

Ability to discern relevant information, apply critical thinking and facilitate the resolution of challenging situations using diplomacy, tact, and persuasion.

Ability to establish effective working relationships.

Demonstrates high level of initiative, self-direction, flexibility and ability to adapt to change/changing situations.

Proficient use of information technology tools and solutions.

Proven attendance record.

Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.

Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others.
