Position Summary

This position is responsible and accountable for a key Pet Specialty Account and the associated Customer Contribution to NPP Canada. This position also contributes to the building of the Account “go to market” strategic plan, based on the Integrated Commercial Plan with Marketing and Trade Marketing, as well as Retail.

Major Responsibilities

Contributes to the strategic Account plan, based on internal objectives, Marketing, and Trade Marketing plans, as well as external competitive marketplace issues and opportunities.

  • Works with Key Account Manager to develop Account strategy with a special focus on Assortment, Merchandising, and best practice Sales promotion.

  • Ensures high visibility for Purina within the Account.

  • Develops Promotional Plans.

  • Evaluates divisional metrics to ensure expectations are met on all key measurements.

Cultivates synergy and collaborative relationships via Integrated Commercial Planning between Marketing, Trade Marketing, Customer Facing Supply Chain and SPG Territory Managers.

  • Ensures the integration of Brand Plans and Channel plans with Account plans and Retail strategy.

  • Communicates all Retail needs and ensures alignment takes place before final account plan completion

Responsible for Trade Spend and maximizing Customer Contribution within the Account by developing and managing a budget

  • Drives pre and post promotion evaluation to increase ROI & spend efficiency.

  • Provides direction regarding spending adjustments as appropriate.

  • Responsible for determining the needs for successful Business Planning with the Account.

Develops the specific agenda for the session.

  • Communicates Cross Functional needs to Team Lead.

  • Executes the planning session and is accountable for all cross functional follow-up.

Accountable for Account Sales Reporting.


  • Completion of a University Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Sales/Marketing

  • 2-5 years of progressive sales experience managing a territory and/or in Trade Marketing

  • Competencies must include strong leadership, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, project management, and time management skills

  • Highly developed organizational, communication, negotiation and presentation skills.

  • Strong problem solving and strategic business thinking.

  • Advanced computer skills, specifically with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. SAP is an asset.
