To support our growing Infrastructure market, we are seeking a Senior Advisor, Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation in our Guelph, Mississauga, Calgary, Edmonton, or Regina offices.

As a leading provider of assessment and design services related to flood mitigation, channel design/restoration, stormwater management and aquatic/terrestrial habitat enhancement/protection, Matrix integrates contributions from our water resource and civil engineers, geomorphologists, ecologists and hydrogeologists to provide integrated solutions to our client’s infrastructure challenges.

The Senior Advisor, Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation will work with other Matrix disciplines to identify and evaluate climate-related risks for our client’s projects and recommend design modifications to mitigate those risks.

This is an exciting leadership and growth opportunity for an experienced climate change professional to positively impact infrastructure projects across the country.The successful applicant will have a solid understanding of climate science, risk management frameworks and future climate projections/datasets, as well as demonstrated experience with private and public infrastructure projects.Specific responsibilities are as follows:Initiate, participate in and manage projects to identify the nature of climate risks and severity of impacts to the built and natural environment, and complete detailed climate change risk and resilience assessments.Make recommendations on risk mitigation and future climate adaptation measures, including design or operational adjustments.Support the completion of Climate Lens Assessments, as required by Infrastructure CanadaContribute to growing our climate change services by identifying and developing new opportunities, preparing proposals, and taking an active role in the development of new business with new and existing clients.

Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business.Via project delivery and business development excellence, capitalize on existing client relationships to expand Matrix’s profile in climate change and resiliency markets.Develop a working understanding of Matrix’s other consulting practice areas and actively support cross-selling climate resiliency services to existing clients.Active participation in maintaining Matrix’s strong safety cultureEducation, Experience, Technical Skills:Undergraduate degree in engineering/environmental science/planning or related discipline.Approximately five years of direct experience related to climate change resilience and adaptation, with a minimum of 10 years in the infrastructure sector.

Experience in the consulting industry would be preferred.Knowledge of climate change challenges in Canada, as well as sources of historical and future climate projection datasets in Canada.Experience with industry standard methodologies to assess climate change risk and resilience (e.G.

PIEVC, ISO 31000)Experience completing Climate Lens Resilience Assessments, as required by Infrastructure Canada, and qualified to provide an attestation for a Climate Lens Resilience Assessment (e.G.

a professional engineer, registered professional planner, or appropriately specialized biologist or hydrologist).A P.Eng designation, Canadian Risk Management designation, or ISO 31000 certification would be an asset.Experience in facilitating climate risk workshops and engaging with various stakeholdersExperience in managing all aspects of a project (financial resources, schedule, deliverables, client/stakeholder communications)Experience related to sustainability, resilience, ESG, or corporate sustainability as well asexperience leading business development initiatives and delivering projects related to resiliency and climate change adaptationProven success in proposal preparation and presentationsStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsPossess a valid Class G driver’s license and a clean driving recordMatrix is committed to providing a safe and productive work environment and to promoting the health, safety and well-being of our employees.
