The Fire Alarm Technician II is responsible for providing, assistance and leading Fire Alarm Technician I, assisting Fire Marshals.

The incumbent serves as part of the fire & life safety team ensuring completion of all aspects of fire safety, prevention and maintenance of fire alarm systems across the respective sites of UHN.

The principal responsibilities include: Inspection/testing of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, fire hose, assisting the fire marshals and leading technician 1 with minor service on fire protection and alarm systems.

Conduct investigations of various fire alarm and sprinkler systems troubles and concerns.

Complete minor repairs of all fire protection systems when required.

Lead fire alarm technician 1 with projects involving fire alarm systems, with the interpretation of blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics and operational manuals.

Assist, evaluate and diagnose equipment that requires surveying as well as troubleshoot problems.

Liaise with service providers to ensure expectations are met.

As a team member take part in fire safety and prevention activities as required to ensure compliance with UHN and Ontario Fire Codes and Standards; responding to fire alarms within the hospitals; Assist in performing operational requirements and assist where required with Toronto Fire Services and other authorities having jurisdiction; Performing report and documentation responsibilities; Performing cross functional and other related duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned by the Hospital management representatives and/or as required Requirements: At Minimum, completion of a 3 year community college program in Fire Protection Technology or recognized equivalent.

At minimum, over 4 years up to and including 6 years practical and related experience required within high-rise facilities would be an asset.

Completion and certified in the Canadian Fire Alarm Association certificate program.

Completed training in various fire alarm systems (e.g.

Siemens, Simplex, Edwards and Notifier) would be an asset.

Fire & Life Safety related experience.

Demonstrated Knowledge of The Ontario Fire/Building/Electrical and ULC Codes.

Demonstrated high level of customer service.

Ability to read and interpret drawings.

Ability to coordinate many activities concurrently.

Ability to handle emergency and/or crisis situations effectively and efficiently.

Ability to follow detailed procedures, ensure accuracy in documentation as per job related standards.

Exercise good judgement and initiative with ability to multi task.

Compliance with confidentiality requirements, under UHN Privacy Policy.

Proficiency with suppression, detection and ancillary devices.

Experience working in a healthcare facility would be an asset.

Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Maintains membership with Canadian Fire Alarm Association and others as deemed appropriate for position.
