Senior Manager, Research Insights (1 Year Contract)

Job Purpose:

The Senior Manager, Research & Insights plans for, designs, and executes all primary and secondary consumer research at Canada Goose. Leveraging technical expertise in qualitative and quantitative research & analytics, the Senior Manager generates and delivers meaningful insights to the organization.

The Senior Manager acts as the ‘face of’ consumer research at Canada Goose, and is required to deliver fact-based, insight-driven, and actionable reports, presentations, and recommendations to an executive audience. The Senior Manager will also partner with the business to facilitate collaborative activities that drive stakeholder engagement, understanding, and action.  

The Senior Manager owns the forward-looking research agenda for Canada Goose. They partner with cross-functional leaders to understand consumer research needs, and own prioritization of research efforts reconciled against Canada Goose corporate strategy.

The Senior Manager partners directly with peers in the Commercial Insights and DTC Insights functions to holistically address queries from the business, drawing on the combined data and insights provided by all areas of the Insights Function.

The Senior Manager owns and maintains all research vendor relationships and performs ongoing assessments of new vendors to support the research needs of Canada Goose.

Success in this role is measured in impact to Canada Goose strategy (via the Senior Manager’s delivery of insights to the business), and maintenance of high service levels in addressing the business’ consumer research needs (via the Senior Manager’s relationship with cross-functional stakeholders).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the team for all ad hoc/custom research projects conducted on an ongoing basis that supports marketing priorities. These projects would be in the following areas:
    • Brand equity tracking
    • Segmentation
    • Marketing effectiveness tracking
    • Market scoping and understanding
    • Cultural deep-dives of key Canada Goose markets
    • Shopper and retail research
    • Consumer trends
    • Concept and product ideation and development
    • Oversee day-to-day management of multiple custom research projects
    • Develop research plans to match business objectives outlining methodology, timing, deliverables
    • Know both when to recommend research and when to recommend against research
    • This is a very hands-on position with executional accountabilities

    Experience, Education and Designations:

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in business, consumer behavior, market research or quantitative discipline
    • 8+ years experience working in a consumer insights position within the consumer brands and retail industry.
    • 8+ years people management experience
    • Knowledge of fashion and apparel industry preferred
    • Experience both on client and supplier side of consumer insights preferred
    • Analytical skills with the ability to deal with ambiguity and make sound decisions
    • Proven ability to source, work with and combine disparate data sets to find patterns, extract insights and answer business questions.
    • Experience with advertising testing, net promoter scoring, concept/new product evaluations, econometric modelling, and measuring brand health and satisfaction
    • Exposure to customer driven, service oriented, entrepreneurial environments
    • Expertise in a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques, analytics, and data synthesis across multiple markets
    • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Outlook

    • Analytics & Insight Development: able to understand business research objective, interpret consumer research data, and develop actionable insights for the business
    • Communication & Presentation: able to verbally communicate research and insights to executive business audiences in a succinct and inspirational manner
    • Deliverable Development: able to create simple, compelling, and visual deliverables that assist in communication of research & insights to business audience
    • Research Methodology & Expertise: awareness of and experience with a broad range of research methodologies and technique, able to recommend optimal methodologies based on business research objectives
    • Proactive Attitude: Entrepreneurial, creative, and resourceful; Self-starter with exceptional work ethic
    • Collaborator: An effective listener who seeks to understand first and offers positive/flexible solutions; High degree of emotional intelligence and able to build effective working relationships
