The Marketplace Merchant is responsible for overseeing assortment plans to meet the strategic objective of delivering optimal city and store specific product. The individual in this role will review various data sources and collaborate with the North America Field Team to ensure distinction and connectivity to drive sales. Additionally, the Marketplace Merchant will complete analysis and assignments for the Geo Market and will take action where appropriate.

  • Utilize Geo insights and nuances (size, color, seasonality, brand affinity) to localize core assortments for Geo – partnering with merchant team to secure OTB and write POs
  • Garner insights from internal/external data sources (including mining social media, competition, local influencers, NPD, and data lake) that can drive consumer stories/concepts or identify commercial opportunities within existing categories or genders
  • Partner with NA team to drive localized product concept creation and execution with existing vendors that provide marketplace distinction and connectivity to local passion points
  • Utilize TED/quick-turn capability to drive localized stories on tee/fleece categories
  • Identify and secure locally relevant stories (with focus on apparel & accessories) from new/local vendors that enhance our top properties including flagship and power stores, as well as our e-commerce platform
  • Partner with Geo Optimization Manager to provide insights/direction to divisional allocation & merchant teams for in-season management
  • Develop and implement testing process that will help identify new opportunities that can be scaled at divisional or NA level
  • Provide real-time feedback and insights to NA/divisional merchant teams and vendors on trends, consumer acceptance, tests, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of allocation or planning experience
  • Advanced level skills including but not limited to Excel, B.I. & Buying systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of retail mathematical calculations and measures
  • Proficient in allocation tools and resources
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills with ability to create synergy between different departments
  • Must be able to effectively collaborate in a matrix working environment
