Architectural Project Manager – Transit Facilities

This is a Contract position in North York, ON posted August 21, 2020.

Are you an experienced Project Manager looking for a great client and to join a dependable, highly ethical organization?  Parsons is seeking a Senior-Principal level Project Manager for a significant role in a Project Management Contract to manage one of the most complex subway station projects in Toronto, through design and construction. 

The selected candidate will have an in depth knowledge of transit station project management, planning, design and construction.  You will be integral to helping execute related projects by assuring on schedule completion, within or below, budget and in accordance with our contractual obligations. Your developing knowledge of the client’s goals and objectives for this project will be instrumental in discussing any changes to the scope of work or new projects, contracts with key subcontractors, and adherence to regulatory requirements.  Keys to your success will be your knowledge of and lessons learned from similar complex subway station renovation projects, through design and construction, and your ability to monitor project deliverables for adherence to client criteria as well as help execution of all business, technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of this very important program. 

In this role you will Implement and manage the assigned project(s) from inception, planning, design, procurement through to completion; You will exercise and delegate authority in managing the work and controlling the delivery of the project in accordance with scope, budget, schedule, and quality assurance requirements

 

Key Job Functions

·         Establish overall scope, schedule and budget for various projects. Prioritize projects and frameworks to meet strategic business and governance goals. Identify external risks and implement mitigation strategies and contingency plans.

·         Ensure project schedules are developed and implemented so that deliverables are provided in a timely and cost effective manner to all stakeholders. 

·         Track, monitor and communicate performance against project requirements, quality measures, milestones and KPIs. Review status reports from project teams and address issues with program or portfolio impacts as appropriate.

·         Ensure timely reporting of financial and performance results including schedule, safety, human resources, and other management issues to transit program and government officials. Review status reports from project teams and address relevant issues.

·         Provide leadership and guidance in recruiting, retaining and training of resources to ensure individual and team targets are achieved as well as to contribute to the ongoing success of the transit program Corporate Plan. Delegate, and guide work.

·         Create, maintain and constantly attempt to improve project development and implementation processes. Implement procedures to ensure successful execution of projects.

·         Define and manage stakeholder expectations and problem resolution.

Skills, knowledge & experience:

·         Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices combined with a thorough knowledge of project management principles and practices.

·         Current transit architectural and engineering principles and practices

·         Project and program management principles, processes and practices, including conceptual planning and all phases of design;

·         Integration project and program management information systems, processes and reporting as it relates to control of scope, scheduling and cost;

·         Construction techniques and practices, contract administration, and knowledge of the Construction Lien Act, as related to subway and transit work;

·         Knowledge of government regulations, legislation and standards, safety regulations and procedures applicable to the project;

·         Sound judgement; highly developed time management, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; excellent analytical and problem solving skills;

·         Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships;

·         Demonstrated ability to motivate, influence and obtain cooperation from a diverse group of internal and external project stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the project;

·         A University degree in related discipline, combined with extensive experience in the areas of projects/construction and engineering management of heavy construction and/or large, multi-disciplined projects;

·         Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer or a similar professional designation in the Province of Ontario.

·         PMP certification is required;

·         Proficiency in the use of a PC and software applications related to the work (Microsoft Office);

·         Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
