Job Description

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be a key part of an innovative, “first to market” technology culture, contributing to CIBC’s digital transformation. As an Sr. Java Developer, you will join CIBC’s Commercial Banking & Payments Technology team within the Capital Market’s Technology division, with responsibility for detailed technical design, integration and primarily back-end development of Java based applications supporting the Commercial Banking business. This role is comprised of approximately 60% coding, 20% design and 20% support of new build, customization/enhancement and maintenance related project work.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Design & Develop: Act as a SME on the analysis and documentation of requirements, estimations for assigned work packages and coordination for end-to-end implementation of program specific solutions. Lead the design and development of cost-effective and innovative solutions to meet business objectives while also maintaining existing applications
  • Programming Ability: Perform and coordinate complex application programming activities: develop specifications, code, test, debug, document, and adjust in order to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of programs. Design application’s technical infrastructure: specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches.
  • Lead & Influence: Lead code-review sessions and ensure overall code quality aligns with business and project requirements. Monitor production and user acceptance testing support to troubleshoot complex problems on applications and technologies.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate experience with: 5 years of Java web application development using RESTful API and Spring, plus a strong knowledge with JavaScript and Angular framework.  In addition to sound competency with SQL Database (Postgres, Oracle, DB2). Ideally, you have strong verbal & written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to articulate yourself clearly to technology partners.  It’s an asset if:  You are familiar with Hybrid native application development, NodeJS, ISAM, ITIM and have had previous exposures to Commercial Banking. Having worked previously on an Agile team would be an added benefit.
  • You have a degree/diploma in:  Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.
