Senior Technical Systems Analyst, Data Protection

What is the opportunity?

Join a growing and dynamic team of data protection security professionals working to safeguard RBC’s data!  The opportunity is for a Senior Technical Systems Analyst to join the Data Protection team, working specifically to safeguard RBC’s databases.  The incumbent will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance and administration of database activity logging, monitoring and protection suite of products.  Partnering with security, technical and business teams, the incumbent will play a critical role in delivering a leading edge database security program that upholds the security and integrity of RBC’s data. 

 

What will you do?

  • As the technical analyst for database protection technologies, you will be accountable for leading the operations of database logging, monitoring and protection technologies across RBC. 
  • Working with team members and partners within and outside of the Data Protection team, you will ensure database protection technologies are operating effectively, efficiently and with the required resiliency to support a complex and high availability environment.
  • Think outside the box to come up with threat scenarios and finding ways to monitor / mitigate such threats.
  • Coordinate and liaise with application and business teams to promote the use of and support the deployment of database protection technologies across RBC.
  • Ensure currency of support documentation and operational playbooks, in accordance with RBC standards, audit and regulatory requirements
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to align data protection requirements.

 

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Expert knowledge of Linux / Unix operating systems, including administration and scripting
  • Understanding and knowledge of database technologies, including but not limited to SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Postgres and Sybase
  • Good understanding of database security principles and concepts
  • Hands on experience with Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Knowledge and understanding of database architectures
  • Experience with large scale technical deployments across multiple business units
  • Experience with operational support of environments with high availability requirements
  • Creative, versatile and adaptable to a dynamic environment, with the ability to pivot quickly when required to adjust to a multitude of moving factors
  • Experience working with large stakeholder groups encompassing multi-disciplinary technical and business teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

Nice to have

  • CISSP/CISA/CRISC certifications or plans to obtain certification
  • Hands on experience with configuration of database logging and monitoring
  • Previous experience with database protection technologies (e.g. database monitoring tools, encryption technologies, etc.)
