The Senior Manager, Information Security (SMIS) contributes to the overall success of the Cyber Security Services (CSS) team, ensuring that specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are successfully executed / delivered in support of business strategies and objectives.  The SMIS ensures that all  Cyber Operations Management (COM) team activities align with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.  The SMIS is also responsible for leading, training, developing, coordinating and tracking staff activities and will be expected to contribute to COM strategy planning to meet group objectives. 


  • Leads COM team effectively, liaises/coordinates with peer groups and other external parties to meet COM objectives.
  •  Contributes to the effective delivery of CSS services that includes KPI/KRI development, operational assurance reporting and operational process development.  The senior manager will govern the development and support of various critical infrastructure processes that include the areas of external email, internet proxies, IDS/IPS, Security Incident and Event Management systems, Anti-Virus, Data Loss Prevention and Forensics.
  • Facilitates various Programs and meetings under the purview of the Cyber Operations Management that include: Cyber Insurance, Enterprise Case Management and Collaboration, Data Loss Prevention, CSS Operations Management and CSS Operational Reporting.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operational delivery of his/her respective area in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Works with the CSS and other business units to effectively manage common projects, regulatory requirements, contribute to common operational decisions, contribute to CSS business case and vendor management support.
  • Delivers operational service support excellence to CSS teams that are charged with direct delivery of services for various CSS security technologies such as endpoint security solutions (Anti-Virus, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Data Loss Prevention, Forensics), network security solutions (Intrusion Prevention Systems, Internet Filtering/Proxy, External Email) and Security Incident and Event Management systems (Cyber Security SIEM and User Behavior Analytics solutions).


  • Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) designation or equivalent management / security experience
  • 7+ years of IT Security and business/industry work experience. Required to keep current with emerging trends, directions and issues in information security technology and auditing frameworks, aware of best practices in the financial services industry and to build up ”networks” and utilize contacts in industry associations and other organizations.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field, or equivalent work experience. 
  • Good working knowledge of and/or experience in: 
    • Global Enterprise Operations
    • IT Project Management (PMP)
    • IT Vendor Management 
    • Financial Industry regulatory or compliance 
    • IT analytics / application programming
    • SDLC, database modeling/administration, SQL database, SSRS Report development, developing ETL packages in SSIS, SQL Scripting, T-SQL   
    • Visual Studio, .Net development, Power-Bi and Visual Basic programming language knowledge would be an asset.
  • Experience dealing with non-compliance situations, conduct an analysis to determine the extent of the problem and accurately report and recommend appropriate action.
  • Experience communication security risks and associated controls to Executive and Senior Management in as constructive and concise manner as possible.
  • Experience with new industry practices, products and events and formulate appropriate positions, leading to the development and implementation policies, standards, technology and guidelines, as appropriate.  
  • Ability to strategically influence and achieve team objectives amidst ambiguity and sometimes conflicting priorities. 
  • Spanish written and verbal skills would be an asset
