Senior Back end Developer


This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted February 3, 2021.

What is the opportunity?

As a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Software Developer, You will join a Solutions Architecture team focused on the design and delivery of new technology services for the RBC Capital Markets team. You will be involved in design, development, R&D, PoC, and deployment of a globally scalable self-service, multi-tenant platform.


What will you do?

  • Design and develop highly scalable and high-performance microservices to be used across RBC Capital Markets (30% design 60% development – 10% R&D and PoC)
  • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests
  • Deliver well documented projects and source code
  • Participate in peer review
  • Provide solutions to migrate existing project to the new services
  • Seed and contribute to inner-sourced projects
  • Translate functional and technical requirements into a detailed design


What do you need to succeed?



  • Languages:5+ years Java, Python, SQL, JavaScript, and  other serious programming language
  • RESTful Web services experience to expose services and process data
  • Experience with BigData technologies such as Hadoop or other NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of financial concepts of Market Data, and risk
  • Have whole life cycle development experience for trading or other systems.

Nice To Have:

  • Proven ability to drive and influence change through innovation & process improvement.
  • Experience with Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes, or similar technologies helpful
  • Knowledge of CI tools like Git, Maven, Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence, and Agile/Scrum development methodology helpful
  • Hands-on experience developing Cloud applications
  • Experience working in start-ups or open source contributor.
  • Experience in modern GUI development such as HTML5 with Django and other Python frameworks
