Environment Manager

The opportunity

The Enterprise Data Platforms (“EDP”) group runs sophisticated data warehouse platforms supporting multiple business applications and business data needs. There are ongoing changes and improvements to these platforms as part of large system projects and ongoing business needs.

Within the Enterprise Data Platforms groups, this role is responsible for managing the scheduling, configuration and setup of non-production environments such that development and testing processes can occur efficiently and accurately resulting in timely delivery of releases.

In this role, there is responsibility for the ongoing management and reporting of identified issues that impede development and testing activities, overall health and adequacy of environments to support non-production needs and determination of environment requirements to support future testing and development needs.

Who you’ll work with

You will communicate and interact with EDP stakeholders, internal partners and key data vendors, while using your ability to work independently, prioritize work assignments, meet targets and produce at a high level.

What you’ll do

  • Have accountability for driving the software release activities through close collaboration with other team members including Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Software Developers, Quality Assurance and Project Managers
  • Technical environment validation and configuration (e.g. connectivity with upstream/downstream systems, validation of data state, running of various deployment manifest processes)
  • Tracking, managing and reporting on release execution status/progress against program release goals
  • Identification and management of impediments (e.g. scheduling conflicts, environmental collisions, technology deficiencies, etc.) through frequent communication with partners to help manage timeline risk and drive overall process/technology improvements
  • Management of technical dependencies within, between and across various releases (e.g. software versions and upstream data requirements)
  • Environment integration with other development teams and projects to ensure accurate connectivity, and data extracts are available during release testing
  • Responsible for providing release and testing assistance for production releases, hot fixes and/or environment improvements
  • Accountable to drive the resolution of non-production environmental issues by engaging the vital resources from Software Development and Technology and Infrastructure teams
  • Accountable to identify and direct improvement opportunities to optimize environment design, usage and upstream/downstream dependencies during the EDP testing and release cycle.
  • Responsible to remain current as to business and technology developments and trends affecting enterprise data management to inform planning and facilitate the evaluation of solution benefits, costs and alternatives.
  • Accountable to contribute to the ongoing development of the Data & Analytics technology program strategy and support Enterprise Data Platforms team objectives
  • Accountable for managing processes and partners to ensure that the availability of technology and data during release testing is efficient and that continuous improvement activities are undertaken
  • Day to day management of non-production environment readiness and health
  • Accountable for the environment strategy supporting Enterprise Data Program releases as well as various interlocking projects that require Enterprise Data environments.
  • Make decisions related to the non-production environment design, scheduling, usage and maintenance

What you’ll need

  • University degree, Computer Science, BA, BSc, Business, or Economics
  • Advance designations may be an asset, such as CFA, FRM, CSC.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at various levels, build and maintain strong positive relationships with partners
  • Possess strong technical skills and the versatility to learn an ever-expanding set of applications and systems.
  • Experience with techniques and toolsets for managing database currency and application configuration required for testing activities.
  • Understanding of solutions and technologies that enable the flow of capital markets data to support institutional operations and decision-making (front to back office); with supporting general knowledge of investment management, investment finance/accounting and corporate concepts, processes and practices.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle activities with a focus on data and database solutions.
  • Experience with database structures and major database platforms, such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, with SQL skills and experience generating queries for data validation and analysis.
  • Exposure to DevOps technologies and tools, including but not limited to Delphix, Elastic Stack, Prometheus/Grafana, UrbanCode Deploy, Jenkins, GitHub, Jira.
  • Exposure with various software development methodologies and practices such as Test-Driven Development, Continuous Delivery, Scrum and Agile.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Service Delivery or IT role supporting the delivery, testing and operational support of technology solutions in a Financial Services/Capital Markets context.
  • Experience in implementing and operating data warehouse solutions, ideally those that support the automated processing of Investment data (e.g., market, securities, transactions, positions, valuations, etc.)
  • Experience in implementing and operating technologies supporting: code management, process/schedule management, database refresh and replication, web services and messaging services.
