Job Summary

The IT Assistant works in a team environment, and is responsible to resolve problems to the satisfaction of the client during mostly evening and weekend shifts. The IT Assistant responds to questions, assists clients, troubleshoots hardware and software problems, and takes ownership of problems referred to them directly or by the Help Desk.Other tasks may include the deployment of desktop computers, printers and peripherals to various facilities including configuration and setup, as well as imaging and wiping desktops to assist day staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

       Under the general direction of the Supervisor, IT Departmental Support, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist clients with desktop computer problems as assigned by IT Technicians and Supervisors of IT Departmental Support
  • Responding to questions, assisting clients, taking ownership of problems referred directly or by the Help Desk.
  • Working in a team environment to resolve problems to the satisfaction of the client, updating support documentation, troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
  • Deploy desktop computer, printers and peripheral to various facilities including configuration and setup.
  • Assist IT Technician with staff moves to existing and new facilities.
  • Assist IT Technicians with the Life Cycle maintenance of IT Assets.
  • Dispose equipment under the direction of IT Technicians and Supervisor of IT Departmental Support.
  • Limited Active Directory rights (Password reset / join to Domain ONLY) *No access to delete from domain. Remote Control Access.
  • Perform other duties as required under the direction of IT Technicians and Supervisor of IT Departmental Support
  • Evening and Weekend work may be required to provide extended business hours support.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduated or completing a College/University program in Information Technology.
  • Working knowledge of automated inventory control systems (Microsoft SCCM, Active Directory reports, Virtual Environments) is an asset.
  • Must possess excellent communication, organization, and administrative skills with a strong customer focus.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of software including Microsoft Windows, Office Suite, Adobe etc.
  • Familiarity with desktop computer operating system, utilities and business application software is an asset.


Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 26.42 – $ 35.23
Hours of Work: 35
