Actuarial Analyst

The successful candidate will help us provide actuarial and administration servicing support for our clients with pension plans.  Strong communication skills, good analytical skills, attention to detail, self-management and organization skills are required for anyone embarking on the career path of becoming a pension consulting actuary.


  • Preparation of standard pension benefit calculations (retirements, terminations, etc.) in accordance with plan rules and legislative requirements
  • Preparation of year-end annual pension statements
  • Assist with other pension plan administration tasks
  • Work with pension databases and Morneau Shepell’s internal software/systems
  • Assist in the preparation of actuarial valuations
  • Receive and respond to routine plan inquiries and requests from clients
  • Takes direction from, and supports, team members
  • Attend internal training sessions to build knowledge of industry topics and trends
  • Assist with special projects, as required

Succeeding as an Actuarial Analyst will require the following core qualifications and skills

  • University degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematics
  • Successful completion of at least 2 SOA exams
  • Combination of excellent analytical and mathematical skills with strong work ethic
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Dedicated team player, who demonstrates initiative and independence
  • A good understanding of personal computers and software, particularly MS Word, Excel, and programming
  • Experience with Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution pension plans an asset, but not required
