Payroll Specialist North America

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted January 31, 2021.

eporting to the Manager, Payroll North America (NA), the NA Payroll Specialist will be responsible for performing all activities related to the processing of Canadian and US payrolls.

This position also has a wide range of general accounting responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Process multiple hourly payrolls in accordance with union contracts where applicable and ensure internal controls are adhered to Prepare salary payrolls and special calculations for the purpose of processing payrolls Ensure all employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner Communicate contractual changes for Kronos schedules and shift rotations Respond to employee inquiries about payment details and calculations Monitor short term disability payments per collective agreements and policies, ensuring payment terms are adhered to Calculate retroactive payments, as needed Vacation tracking and processing per CDN and USA guidelines, including collective agreements Review all master-file changes and audits completed by HRIS and HR teams Process Record of Employment (ROE) for leaves, terminations and retirements Ability to explain system changes and updates as required, I.e.

contractual changes Processing payment requests pertaining to RRSP, garnishments and union dues Monthly payroll related general ledger reconciliations WSIB reporting and year-end reconciliation with provinces Assist with the coordinating of audits with WSIB and Revenue Canada Other duties as assigned by the Payroll NA Manager WORKING CONDITIONS Normal office environment; potential exists for work hours to be outside of regular hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires long periods of sitting, working on a computer or speaking on a phone.

If visiting any manufacturing locations, may need to enter areas with limited HVAC, exposure to industrial solvents, noise, dust, temperature changes and some chemicals.

Must be capable of wearing Personal Protective Equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED Certified or enrolled Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or equivalent Minimum five years’ payroll experience and general accounting experience in a complex, manufacturing environment would be an asset Kronos 7.0 Time Management system is an asset PeopleSoft Payroll software or similar payroll system SAP general ledger knowledge Strong math and computer skills Advanced Microsoft Excel skill required General accounting knowledge and experience Work with multiple systems and understand interfacing from payroll systems to accounting systems Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience with CDN and US payroll, including taxation would be an asset Ability to understand multiple and complex collective agreements Bilingual English-French is an asset The above declarations are not intended to be all-inclusive of this position’s duties, responsibilities and requirements to do this job.
