Guided by the Code of Ethical Practices, all members work with governments, private payers, healthcare professionals and stakeholders in a highly ethical manner.Position Profile:The Executive Director, Policy is accountable to the Vice-President, Legal, Regulatory Affairs & Compliance to meet the association’s policy and research needs.

This senior hands-on leader has a proven track record in developing strategies and conducting regular environmental scans and trend analysis to anticipate adjustments to strategic policy agendas.

The Executive Director is responsible for the performance of the policy function, working with colleagues to ensure an integrated policy and research approach that positions the association as a thought leader on issues related to healthcare and the industry at large.

Key Responsibilities:Sets the operational direction for the department ensuring accomplishment of IMC’s strategic objectives as they relate to policy and researchManages, mentors, motivates, and monitors the performance of the Policy and Research teamResponsible for promoting policy research excellence on pharmaceutical and health policy matters on behalf of the organizationLeads and oversees annually a needs assessment of organizational policy and research requirements to meet membership needsLeads policy development on priority issues within IMC and leverages expertise from the membershipDevelops partnerships within IMC to increase the impact of the organization’s expertise and knowledge capabilityEnsures that all policy statements, backgrounders, issue papers and positions are updated and approvedMonitors and communicates to IMC members policy developments and trends that could impact the pharmaceutical and life sciences industryDevelops and maintains relationships with individuals in government, think tanks, associations, and key opinion leaders in the broader health research and pharmaceutical policy communities to gain and share understanding of emerging issuesOther duties as may be required per the direction of the Vice PresidentQualifications:Master’s or Doctorate level in a relevant field is a mandatory requirement ( e.G.

Public Policy/Administration, Health Policy Management, Health Economics, MBA, MSc, Political Science)Seven to ten years’ experience in health and pharmaceutical policy, or social policy either in the public, not-for-profit, or private sectorEffective and successful leadership, mentorship, and management of team membersWorking within or understanding of the pharmaceutical sector in CanadaExperience with membership trade or professional associationsRelationship-building experience with government officials, think tanks, associations, and key opinion leaders in the broad health research, health system, economic and pharmaceutical policy communitiesHigh-level of diplomacy, tact, judgement and leadership abilitiesExcellent English verbal and writing communications skillsKnowledge of Canadian healthcare systems and pharmaceutical regulatory bodies and agenciesEffective research, planning and project management skillsEffective presentations skills to an executive audienceAbility to understand and apply relevant policy frameworks and analytical toolsAbility to make decisions in a timely manner in situations of ambiguityStrong ability to present technical and/or complex information in a manner that is understandable by a wide variety of audiencesKnowledge of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries and the related complex range of issues within the sectorBilingualism (English and French) is an assetTo apply, please submit a copy of your resume in confidence to Michael Villeneuve via the “apply now” button.
