Department: Information & Communication Technology

Status: Temporary Full-time for approximately 12 months

Hours: Monday to Friday; 8-hour shifts (37.5hrs/week – may include some evenings and weekends)

Site: Oakville (with travel to other sites as required)

Position Profile:

At Halton Healthcare, we are re-imagining the delivery of safe, effective, and exemplary patient care, enhancing the staff and physician experience across our hospitals.  The Interchange Instructional Designer is a personable, energetic, and motivated individual with a passion for adult education and pursuing new and exciting approaches to support organizational development and change management.

The candidate thrives on engaging front-line staff to understand their educational needs, and tailors curriculum and content to match the same.  Passionate about leveraging multi-modal forms of learning, the Interchange Instructional Designer has extensive experience in developing eLearning, print, and multimedia content to support the goal of both staff and physicians being adequately prepared for large, organization-wide changes.

Reporting to the Director of Information & Communication Technology, the Interchange Instructional Designer leads a team of instructors to deliver the developed curriculum, ensuring we achieve our goal of 100% of staff and physicians having successfully completed training prior to go-live in the Summer of 2021.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with key stakeholders (including nursing, physician, program, and project leadership) to review and understand the nature of the change at hand
  • Reviews materials available from various vendors and liaises with other organizations to determine what approaches and content have been successful (and likewise, what has been less successful)
  • Working closely with key stakeholders, measures criteria for learning needs and course content, and develops a curriculum based on needs tailored to the roles of the individuals requiring training
  • Establishes a learning plan that considers conventional in-class instruction, micro learnings and videos, and mastery testing to confirm readiness
  • Consolidates information into the creation of engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances knowledge retention
  • Develops electronic and printed content (such as workbooks and quick-reference guides) to support both in-class education and use after go-live
  • Organizes, prepares, and facilitates in-class and virtual training sessions to a wide range of audiences and supports the use of eLearning as part of the delivery of the curriculum
  • Monitors and mentors a team of instructors responsible for delivering the content and supporting staff through their completion of the curriculum
  • Monitors and reports on staff completion of training, proactively identifying areas that require additional support and strategizing how to remediate
  • Strategizes and develops supporting materials for staff during go-live and beyond
  • Engages staff in the development of material post-live to address areas requiring further training and support
  • Develops a plan and content to support ongoing new hire training

Candidate Profile:

Halton Healthcare endeavors to hire individuals who exemplify our mission, vision and values of accountability, respect and compassion which guide our individual behaviors and attitudes.

  • Previous experience working in a hospital setting preferred
  • Solid understanding of adult learning theories and instructional design principles, tools, and strategies (such as ADDIE)
  • Experience with e-Learning and screen-recording software (such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia) an asset
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience managing content within a Learning Management System (LMS) an asset
  • Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to “tell a story”
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team
  • Thrives under pressure
