Therapeutic Recreationist

Hamilton Health Sciences

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted September 25, 2020.

The Nursing Resource Team (NRT) and Clinical Resource Team (CRT) operate within the Quality & Performance (Q&P) Portfolio, under the strategic leadership of the Director of Clinical Resource. Clinical Managers provide day-to-day leadership and direction for the team and supporting staff. Clinical Education and Development Clinicians support the educational and developmental needs of the team. The NRT and CRT are staffing teams that play a vital role in the provision of staffing services across patient care programs at Hamilton Health Sciences. It is comprised of full-time and part-time staff whose shifts are assigned to various clinical areas to meet appropriate staffing requirements. Resource team staff will respond to needs based on patient acuity, replacement for sick time, vacation, and known vacancies. Staff within the NRT and CRT are aligned to a cluster or multiple clusters to support staffing needs throughout all HHS sites and Alternative Health Facilities (AHF).

As a member of the Clinical Resource Team, the Therapeutic Recreationist uses specialized skills to facilitate the development of balanced and rewarding leisure lifestyles for clients. This process will be achieved through formal assessments, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation and discharge planning.

The Therapeutic Recreationist will be aligned to a cluster or multiple clusters to support staffing needs throughout all HHS sites and Alternative Health Facilities (AHF).

1. Degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a main focus on therapeutic aspects of recreation (e.g
rehabilitation, long term care)
2. Recent experience (3 years within the previous 5 years) working with adults in an inpatient setting. Experience within a specialized inpatient and/or ambulatory rehabilitation program preferred.
3. Must be eligible for certification with a Therapeutic Recreation Association
4. Current First Aid and CPR Certification
5. Demonstrated time management, interpersonal and computer skills
6. Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable, insured transportation
