Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, you will be responsible for screening and assessing a large number of patients with mild to moderate signs of COVID-19 to our new Assessment Centre. The Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for vital signs, physical assessment, on-site testing, setting up medical equipment and other duties as assigned. You may be scheduled at any SHN hospital based on department needs.

Requirements:

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing
• Practical Nursing diploma from a recognized community college
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
• Competent to perform CPR at a basic Cardiac Life Support level
• Experience completing nasopharyngeal swab
• Conduct assessment of patients with signs and symptoms of COVID-19
• Demonstrated sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
• Demonstrated excellent documentation skills
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work – independently and within a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
• Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN′s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
• Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
• Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
• Excellent work performance and attendance
