We currently have 7 Regular Full Time opportunity for a Registered Nurse in the K3E – Veteran’s Centre at our Bayview Campus.

Unit Overview:

Located in the Veterans Centre, K3E Acute is a new 32 bed inpatient unit that provides acute care for patients across the life span, from adult to senior, with up to 12 beds dedicated for patients with behavioural support care. This unit uses an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach for complex and transitional care needs. Patients will be transferred from inpatient units or the Emergency Department to support them in their focused care needs while creating capacity for higher acuity inpatients within Sunnybrook.

Summary of Duties

Responsible for providing person-centred care for a broad range of patients with a number of differing speciality needs. The RN works independently and interdependently as part of the interprofessional health care team. It is ideal opportunity for nurses, from the novice looking to start off their career to the experts seeking to explore other career paths. This will be an exciting and dynamic environment for nursing staff. The RN will be a champion in promoting excellent patient care while also demonstrating exceptional leadership, communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. The RN will provide compassionate care that supports the vision, mission and values of SHSC.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Nursing care processes, including identification of patient needs and assessments
• Collaboration with patients and their families with complex health conditions, neurodegenerative diseases and responsive behaviours
• Implementing evidence based interventions, and evaluating patient outcomes and the patient
• Engage in ongoing quality improvement, professional development and reflective practice
• Engage in consultation with intraprofessional and interprofessional team members
• Opportunities to lead team

Qualifications/Skills

• Current Ontario College of Nurses Registration
• Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred
• Curent B.C.L.S.
• Person-Centred Care philosophy required
• Expertise or experience in gerontological nursing and senior friendly care an asset
• Ability to function in an interprofessional team with demonstrated excellent communication skills
• Excellent assessment skills and ability to identify emergent issues
• Demonstrated critical-thinking, decision-making, and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated patient assessment and patient management skills.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional practice and support of a quality practice setting environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to safe, high quality, ethical care
• Demonstrated ability to support colleagues through consultation with the evolving complex care needs of patient and family
• Acute care experience preferred
• Computer skills required
