This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted October 1, 2020.

3C Pediatric Medicine & Intermediate Care Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital provides inpatient tertiary, acute and sub-speciality care to pediatric medical patients. This is a dynamic, fast paced acute care unit where specialized medical care is provided to children with complex congenital abnormalities, endocrine, gastrointestinal, cardiac, respiratory, musculoskeletal disorders, neurology as well as pediatric trauma environment.

As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the job description and standards of practice for Registered Nurses on 3C.

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Current BCLS certification, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Certificate
3. Recent (one year) experience, within the last two years, in a pediatric setting
4. Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing care and disease process of acutely ill children within the pediatric population groups; growth and development from neonate to teenager (normal and abnormal); family-centered care, family roles and structure; chronic and acute illness; pain management; and death and dying
5. Demonstrated competence in the care of the above mentioned pediatric populations including: vascular access, cardiorespiratory monitoring, medication administration for pediatric patients and pediatric dialysis
6. Demonstrated skills in physical and psychosocial assessment specific to the pediatric population
7. Demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability in health teaching with pediatric patients and their families
8. Demonstrated skill in preoperative teaching and discharge planning
9. Demonstrated ability to communicate with children and their families under stressful conditions and collaborate and work within an interdisciplinary team
10. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills
11. Demonstrated leadership and delegation abilities and the ability to organize and coordinate patient and family-centered care with members of the healthcare team
12. Demonstrated ongoing professional development and commitment to corporate initiatives
13. Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapid change in patient condition, length of stay, and workload status
