This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted September 17, 2020.

This position supports both Interventional Radiology and the Pediatric Sedation team at the MUMC site.

As part of the Perioperative Services, Interventional Radiology is a multi-site program which supports a high volume of diverse patients and families. Interfacing with Diagnostic Services, Interventional Radiology provides pre, intra and post procedural care for both adult and pediatric patients 24 hrs a day, 7 days as week.

The Pediatric Sedation team is comprised of specially trained health care professionals working collaboratively to provide excellent patient care to both inpatients and outpatients by reducing pain and stress associated with children’s medical and procedures. The Pediatric Sedation team provides care to infants and children for procedures and diagnostic tests in 3D,MRI,CT, Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology and other satellite areas throughout the hospital.

As a member of a Multidisciplinary Health Care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) for Interventional Radiology and the Pediatric Sedation team applies clinical expertise and knowledge of adult, children and families to plan patient care, provide nursing intervention and evaluate clinical practice across the continuum of care meeting the client and family needs with the core values of respect, caring, innovation and accountability.

Days, weekends, nights, holidays, on call
For on call shifts, it is required to be at the hospital within 30 minutes

This position is temporary until April 2021.

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
2. Current ACLS,BCLS and PALS certification required
3. Adult critical care preparation and ability to initiate cardiac monitoring, identify cardiac dysrhythmias, use of pulse oximetry and knowledge of procedural sedation protocol.
4. Recent (within 2 years) experience in caring for acutely ill adults required. Recent (within 2 years) experience in caring for acutely ill pediatric patients preferred.
5. Recent (within 2 years) experience in preparation, intra procedure care and recovery of adult patients receiving intravenous sedation required.
6. Interventional Angiography or Critical Care experience (within 2 years) required. PACU experience of recovering adult patients preferred.
7. CVAD, VAT certification required. PCVAD and PVAT certification preferred.
8. Perioperative nursing certification preferred.
9. Ability to see/work in a dimly lit environment.
10. Ability to assess concurrent demands, set priorities, organize work and maintain accuracy and concentration during periods of high acuity.
11. Demonstrated effective communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
12. Evidence of participation in on going education & professional development.
13. Must be able to wear lead aprons for long periods of time (aprons are approximately 15-20 pounds in weight).
