We currently have a Regular Part-time  opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner – CNS & Hematology in the Oncology CMH department at our Bayview campus.

Hours of Work: Weekends: Days; 8 hrs; As per scheduke

Summary of Duties

The Nurse Practitioner (NP), having a specialty-based focus, functions in an expanded nursing role in the Odette Cancer Centre demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions surrounding palliative care and symptom management. The NP acts as the main contact for oncology patients and referring healthcare teams. The NP practices according to the philosophy and standards of Sunnybrook and integrates knowledge and skill from nursing, medicine, and surgery in order to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals who have complex cancer-related diseases and who require extensive support throughout treatment and towards end of life. Assessing patients comprehensively and providing medical management over the phone and with primary care providers will be of utmost importance within this NP role. The NP will be responsible for ensuring patients with CNS or hematological cancers are linked with the appropriate resources within the community. Discussion around goals of care and /or advanced care planning will be of critical with this population.


  • This NP role will require a lot of promotion, communication and coordination with cancer centres and healthcare teams from across the LHIN, GTA, and/or Province.
  • Program development, including educational resources, metrics, data collection, financial planning, evaluation framework
  • Works closely with the CNS interprofessional team. Will also be required to support complex malignant heme patients one day a week.
  • Practices within the full scope of the Nurse Practitioner role conducting assessments, developing diagnoses and therapeutic plans of care.
  • Promotes wellness and health promotion in order to provide exemplary quality care through the application of advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrates sound clinical reasoning and current evidence in decision making, planning and implementing care.
  • Coordinates with nurses to stimulate interest and provide innovative learning opportunities to integrate research findings, theory, and technique for advanced patient care.
  • Collaborates with Interprofessional Team (including Physicians, APN, Clinical Educator, Ambulatory Care Manager, Chemo and Pharmacy staff and clinic/inpatient staff) in coordinating and providing care for patients from referral throughout the journey.
  • Communication with patients, families, healthcare providers within the program and at centres all over the Province.
  • Collaborates with APN leadership and nursing operations team to prepare and guides nurses in the teaching-learning process in order to advance nursing strategic goals and corporate objectives.
  • Contributes to the performance review process and participates in the hiring of administrators, nursing staff and other health care professionals.
  • Serves as a resource and consultant to administration in decision-making, strategic planning and problem-solving processes
