Health And Safety Manager

This is a Contract position in Markham, ON posted August 17, 2020.

Purpose: We are seeking a talented individual to leads all aspects of the National Health and Safety programs and all required governance and administration to stay in sync with provincial regulations as well as our Group Policy.

This role produces regular reports and crafts processes to meet audit and compliance standards associated with the welfare of all employees, contractors, and visitors.

The successful candidate will be part of the H&S Team and will partner with a diverse team of HR, Risk, Facilities, Corporate Security, and business units to achieve or exceed internal and regulatory compliance.

They will be key in supporting the effort to build and sustain a world class organization.

Accountabilities: Maintains compliance with Regulatory and Legislative controls as well as Group Standards Generates suitable action plans to address gaps in compliance or eliminate risks that impact workplace safety.

Conducts incident investigations and leads post-accident problem solving and to determine the after-action reviews.

Maintains an active role in ensuring Aviva offices and staff are proactively engaged in the programs and processes that prevent accidents and injuries.

Serves as the SME on local regulations associated with the H&S programs.

Develops and improves H&S programs and delivers H&S training.

Develops safety policies/procedures along with e-learning training to ensure understanding and implementation by leaders and team members.

Oversees Regional Team Leads on the management of programs at the local level.

Conducts frequent site visits, vendor reviews and H&S audits/risk assessments/inspections.

Updates and builds Policy as the need arises.

Is responsible for standard reporting requirements including accurate and timely audit response.

Partners with external vendors and consultants to support day-to-day activities and special projects.

Is responsible for the ongoing utilization of an integrated H&S management system tool that stays in sync with Groups’ H&S Standards.

Advises the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC), the management team and Regional Team Leads in the administration, auditing and inspections required to meet local and Group standards.

Can work under their own initiative, refer upwards where appropriate.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience Occupational H&S Certificate and First Aid Certifications First Aid Instructor Certification is an asset  Experience: 7 years’ of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs including 3 years in a lead role Digital literacy incl.

Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Project Management experience is nice to have.
