Industrial Hygiene / Environmental Technician

This is a Contract position in London, ON posted September 30, 2020.

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking an Industrial Hygiene / Environmental Technician to join our team in London, ON. The successful candidate will have a diploma or university degree in a related field and enjoy working at a variety of different client sites, as well as outdoors in all weather conditions. Key Responsibilities

 

  • Asbestos and designated substance and hazardous materials surveys

  • Mould and water intrusion assessments

  • Indoor air quality and noise assessments

  • Comprehensive air sampling programs for a variety of materials, including chemicals and dust

  • Proposal and report writing

  • Data compilation, record keeping and coordination of work including communication through verbal and written correspondence

  • Analysis of data, and assist in the preparation of technical reports, work plans and project specifications

  • Assist other disciplines on field sampling programs as needed, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (including soil and groundwater sampling)

  • Collaborate with other Wood offices / environmental staff on projects in Eastern Canadian locations

  • Work will be predominantly field sampling and may require occasional evening and weekend work

Skills / Qualifications

  • College diploma or University degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, or programs which have included studies in one or more of designated substances, asbestos, air quality, industrial hygiene, environmental site assessment, soil or ground water

  • 1-5 years of related work experience is preferable

  • Good communication skills and attention to detail is a requirement (verbal and written)

  • Must be available to work overtime

  • Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle appropriate for carrying field equipment, including a six-foot ladder

  • Must be able to wear a respirator for long time periods.

  • Must be willing to occasionally work at heights with the use of fall arrest systems.

  • Must be willing to travel (mostly within Southern Ontario, but with occasional remote northern or out of province projects)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office (word and excel)

  • Capable of working in adverse weather conditions and working long, physically demanding and varied hours in remote locations

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and conduct other physically strenuous tasks such as carrying equipment, sampling building materials, shoveling and augering, etc.

  • Team-oriented, self-motivated and safety conscience with strong problem solving skills

  • Experience working around heavy equipment and with contractors is an asset

  • Working experience with AutoCAD, GIS and other software programs an asset

  • Holding a reliability security level clearance certificate is preferable; however, if candidate does not have, must be able to retain if hired
