General Accountabilities:

  • With a focus on the Distribution Management System (DMS) platform, provide prompt and efficient power engineering support to the network model sustainment effort.
  • Support application and database configurations for advanced power engineering system modeling and to ensure the efficient daily operation of distribution operating tools and systems.
  • Provide support to DMS end-users for power application related enquiries.
  • Support the maintenance of quality of DMS power function results.
  • Provide after-hours on-call support to Ontario Grid Control Centre (OGCC) Control Room operating/support personnel.
  • Develop and support OT Operations applications, databases and systems to support power engineering work and ensure secure, stable operation. Receive, assess, and validate new and revised business and power engineering requirements and facilitate review by architecture teams. Solicit proposals from internal/external parties to meet business needs.
  • Recommend enhancements to provide additional power engineering functionality and problem correction.
  • Support the development and testing of interfaces for power engineering and control application and system functions.
  • Support and conduct power engineering problem root cause analyses, and identify corrective actions.
  • Participate in the development of strategic plans and standards.
  • Plan and execute projects and assist project teams involved in upgrades and enhancements of supported Distribution systems and operating tools.
  • Work with software vendors and consultants to coordinate and oversee project activities.
  • Develop close customer relationships to identify potential improvements to existing systems and new system requirements.
  • Act as a mentor to peers to advance their learning and facilitate their professional development.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Selection Criteria:

    • Familiarity with OGCC Control Room operations and processes and advanced knowledge of the DMS platform.
    • Broad technical knowledge of power system OT applications and functions.
    • Knowledge of Adaptive Relay Protection systems
    • Knowledge of databases and experience with data analysis and report preparation.
    • Advanced knowledge of computer technology for power engineering functions.
    • Experience providing technical support to users of operational software.
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work, and work in a team environment.
    • Professional level of oral and written communication skills.
    • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering beneficial


Essential Competencies:

  • Requires 4-year university degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop cooperative relationships while interacting with others.
  • Ability to use keen investigative, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and innovative.
  • Desire to assist others and meet their needs.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to build persuasive arguments based on logic and facts.
  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
