Hamilton Health Sciences

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted March 9, 2021.

The Cardiac & Vascular program is responsible for the care provided to patients on 5 South(Cardiac Surgery), 5 West (Vascular Surgery), the CCU, CIU (Cardiology) as well as the Heart Investigation Unit, ICU West, the Electrophysiology Lab, Autonomic Lab, Outpatients Department and the Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation Centre at the General site. The Arrhythmia Services Program at the General site supports care of patients requiring electrophysiology studies and cardiac ablations, permanent pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardioversion. Patients from Hamilton-Wentworth and Central South Ontario are referred for investigation of acute cardiac arrhythmias. Invasive diagnostics as well as therapeutic procedures are performed in the EPS lab, five days a week. The results of these investigations may determine whether a patient requires a permanent pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

1. Grade 12 education and must be able to read and write English proficiently
2. Current Certificate in CPR/BCLS
3. Completion of Personal Support Worker certificate
4. Completion of CSAO Techniques course
5. Minimum 2 years technical experience in a similar role (the handling and care of delicate equipment) within a healthcare environment
6. Demonstrated experience maintaining and stocking materials and supplies (sterile/unsterile)
7. Knowledge and skill in using computers (Microsoft Office and Meditech)
8. Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and WHMIS
9. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills
10. Demonstrated initiative and judgement appropriate for the position
11. Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions, set priorities and organize work accordingly
12. Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body techniques
