What You’ll Be Doing

Global Operational Risk Management (GORM) is responsible for the identification, measurement and monitoring of all operational risks throughout the bank. Within GORM the Risk Measurement & Predictive Analytics team is responsible for data management, analysis, delivery and insight creation.  GORM is  innovating the way that operational risk is measured and managed at CIBC which includes the development of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence approaches that will allow us to find answers and insights locked in our data.

Traditional solutions are challenged with handling the complexity of the operational risks faced by financial institutions. To overcome these challenges, CIBC’s global operational risk program is leveraging machine learning techniques to model and predict threats and initiate mitigants before they turn into a problem.  Reporting to the Senior Director, Risk Measurement & Predictive Analytics, the Risk Modeling Analyst primary responsibilities involves working with the GORM team to analyze and model operational risk data to identify insights in order to mitigate risks.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Model Development – Develop a variety of supervised and unsupervised machine learning models such as Neural Networks, Decision Forests, Support Vector Machines and Bayesian methods. Work with departmental as well as bank-wide data sources to access information for analysis, data mining and predictive modeling. Complete exploratory analysis on large volumes of structured and unstructured data
  • Data Management & Programming – Assist the Director and the analytics team to source and manage new data sources for projects and ongoing day-to-day operations. Develop models using Python and R for data analytic assignments. Review, analyze, and modify systems, including coding, testing, and debugging.
  • Curious and Creative – Innovative and attempt new concepts and design an experience that makes complex insights more intuitive.
  • Presentation and Communication – Effectively interact with all stakeholders, end users, business analysts, and technical resources to gather requirements, develop proof-of-concepts models to address business challenges, and present results to stakeholders.
  • Stay Current with Best Practices – Constantly look for ways to improve our modeling capabilities, staying up to date with industry best practices in machine learning and advanced analytics.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate experience in experimental design, statistical analysis, machine learning and predictive modeling. Good understanding of business environment (preferably financial industry) and the ability to apply machine learning techniques to solve business challenges
  • You have a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field (Masters or Ph.d preferred)
  • You have advanced programming skills in one or more of the following languages: Python, R, MATLAB
