Senior Supplier Manager, Banking Operations


This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted September 24, 2020.

What is the opportunity?


The Card Operations and Supplier Management (COSM) is hiring a Senior Supplier Manager, Banking Operations. This role will be responsible for quality functional management, direction and leadership skills and aptitude for material Supplier Management relationship and portfolio oversight routines and requirements throughout the P&CB Supplier lifecycle. The Senior Supplier Manager, ensures clear and concise monitoring and assessment due diligence of Supplier performance against established service level commitments in the contract. The roles acts as Centre of Expertise for Supplier communication, escalation, continuous improvement and reporting for Supplier performance in steady state. The Senior Supplier Manager will also be responsible for maximizing shareholder and customer value through a win-win relationship between Banking Operations and the supplier. This team collaborates with relevant groups in developing and implementing recommendations to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, enhance the client experience and increase shareholder value.


What will you do?

  • Act as a key referral and expert point of reference to senior management on all matters relating to Supplier Management due diligence and risk controls and monitoring. Understands and responds to implications and impacts of supplier/process developments and changes to the business and client experience
  • Establishes consistency and best practices, including ongoing reviews of contracts to ensure standard contract clauses; ensures contracts have appropriate SLAs relative to their contracts
  • Ongoing reviews of supplier governance; ensures governance protocols are in place and escalation routines are established
  • Collaborates with relevant groups in maximizing supplier value within the team: contract efficiencies, SLA improvements, cost opportunities, and innovation opportunities, while balancing risk
  • Oversees the Operations Supplier Management risk profiles, ensuring full adherence to legislative, regulatory and compliance requirements as well as internal policies. Minimizes supplier risk through proactive measures and strategic solutions. Works with COSM leaders to ensure appropriate and timely resolution of IAS, external audit, compliance review points and implements risk reduction solutions as required
  • Leads investigation and resolution of complex, high and medium impact Supplier system malfunctions or process breakdowns, convening cross functional teams, establishing root cause, completing impact analysis, formulating and executing remediation strategies and completing a post-mortem reviews to leverage lessons learned and mitigate risk of recurrence.
  • Sets up and owns the shared Relationship Roles and Responsibilities matrix between RBC and Supplier and the business
  • Set up and ongoing management of Supplier Routines:  monthly, quarterly, annually.  Includes SLA status, operational compliance monitoring and planning (e.g. BCP), project and maintenance planning, relationship issue resolution and prioritization of upcoming opportunities for greatest impact
  • Acts as the voice of the Supplier for RBC, identifying new/innovative Supplier capabilities that could be leveraged for greater efficiency and effectiveness, while balancing risk.
  • Provide and ensure protocols are in place to provide suppliers with ongoing production, technology and operations support, ensuring processes, procedures and protocols are up to date at all times.
  • Sets up contract in partnership with Procurement, ensuring that the contract contains SLA’s, KPI’s, regulatory and any other operational element that will be measured once the contract is implemented and ensures Master Supplier Agreement provisions are appropriately tracked and managed. Ensures all documentation is in order as per RBC policies and procedures
  • Lever strategic insights on the Business needs, input, and pricing structure to ensure the Business Stakeholder’s best interests are always represented in the contractual process.
  • Develop, implement and monitor Service Level Agreement. Ensures submission & validation of SLA reporting within required timeframes, documents breaches as required and work with the suppliers to close any service gaps & maintain performance levels.
  • Monitors suppliers’ performance monthly against established service level commitments (operational, documentation preparation and system) and client expectations and works to close gaps.  Reviews results with Vendor supplier and Business Units monthly.  Participates and establishes SLA’s where required.



What do you need to succeed?




  • Minimum 5 years of related Supplier Management and operations Experience
  • Minimum University Degree
  • Strong Leadership, facilitation, negotiation, verbal & written communication skills to deal with senior executives
  • Ability to identify and utilize internal and external networks to influence situations and establish effective relationships
  • Strong People Management and Operation Management background
  • Supplier & relationship management competencies
  • Strong knowledge of RBC;s Business and Functional Units, including Banking operations
  • Strong analytical & problem solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.  Accurately defines problems and identifies relevant factors while objectively considering alternatives and anticipating the client impact of possible solutions. 



·         Basic project management skills

·         Strong knowledge of RBC Business, Operations and Functional Units, including Personal, products, processes, systems and client need

·         Experience with creating, documenting, implementing and managing efficient, effective & client-friendly product fulfillment processes.  Previous knowledge of and/or experience working with Student Loan Regulations would be an asset

·         Proficiency with Knowledge of, and experience working with various RBC systems/applications (SRF, Sales Platform, IRIS, CACS, On Demand etc.)
