Contributes to the overall success of the Global Brand & Customer Insights team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Senior Manager, Market Research, Global Brand & Customer Insights will be responsible for undertaking the development, planning, and execution of all aspects of the market research process supporting Scotiabank’s Canadian and International business including subsidiaries (e.g. Tangerine). Business lines supported include, but not limited to, Retail and Small Business Banking, Corporate & Commercial Banking, Wealth Management and other internal business lines including product groups, channels, customer experience groups and support functions.



•    Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

•    Responsible for the development and execution of all aspects of the market research process for various internal client groups across Scotiabank including subsidiaries (e.g. Tangerine), both domestically and Internationally. This includes:

–    Working with internal business line partners to understand purpose/research needs.
–    Designing research and developing proposals, including decisions on methodology, target, geographic quotas, timing, etc.
–    Identifying and managing vendor relationships with high-quality research fielding and/or full-service partners.
–    Translate market research strategies into detailed data specifications required for research analysis.
–    Prepare and communicate detailed project workback schedules and task accountabilities.
–    Coordinate, analyze, and present market research data – as well as analytics data – for strategic insights and recommendations.
–    Prepare presentations and summaries of market research findings and present findings to different audiences across the Bank.
–    Contribute to the team’s internal research portal and social networks.

•    Provide relationship management support for various lines of business across the organization by:

–    Establishing a cohesive network of relationships with vendor partners, internal business line partners and other key senior leaders across the organization in order to enhance consumer/target insights, various analyses, etc.
–    Providing direction in the use of the most effective and innovative market research analytical techniques in order to identify emerging consumer needs and behavior trends and define/refine key segment targets.
–    Providing support during strategy, ideation, and execution to all stakeholders.

•    Maintain knowledge of best practice in Market Research management and strategic initiatives by:

–    Aiding in the communication and dissemination of research and analytics findings, highlighting trends in consumer attitude and behavior throughout the Bank.
–    Researching industry best practices in Market Research activities & execution and linking strategy to results.
–    Creating and maintaining a network of strategy professionals to share learning.

•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

•    Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 

•    Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.


The Senior Manager, Market Research acts as the expert on market research activities, and must provide unbiased, customer-focused advice, while at the same time ensuring that their activities do not impede customer acquisition/retention, business line growth and profitability activities.

To be successful in the position, this role requires the following technical and behavioral competencies:

•    Experience in market research (8+ years), preferably on the vendor side 
•    Advanced knowledge of SPSS, Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint
•    Sound working knowledge of multi-variant statistical techniques
•    Thorough understanding of the end-to-end process of quantitative and qualitative market research 
•    Superb written and verbal communication skills
•    Proven ability to translate and communicate business requirements into technical research project specifications
•    Sound knowledge of emerging market research techniques
•    Some working knowledge of key global trends in the financial services industry and the impact of these on the use of market research
•    Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
•    Able to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
•    Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work within cross-functional teams
•    Experience in financial services would be an asset but not required
•    Experience with survey tools such as Qualtrics would be an asset
•    Ability to speak Spanish is not required but would be considered an asset


Educational Requirements:
University degree in Business/Commerce, Math/Statistics or Computer Science is preferred.
